About Me 🦉
I am a 4th year Ph.D. candidate, advised by Doina Precup and Yoshua Bengio, at McGill University. A proud member of the Reasoning and Learning lab at School of Computer Science, interested in the general principles of intelligence. Also, an OG researcher of Mila (Quebec AI Institute).

[2024] I am invited by Prof. Richard Naud to the Brain and Mind Research Institute of University of Ottawa as a visiting student to collaborate on works regarding conscious planning.
[2024] The 2nd work on human conscious planning was submitted to ICLR 2024, and it received coverage from media including the Mila Blog Post. Check for more details by clicking on the link right below!
[2024] I have started as a part-time research intern at Borealis AI, working on model-based RL and generalization with Tristan Sylvain.
[2023] I finished my work a student researcher at Haiper, working closely with Ziyu Wang & Yishu Miao. We made the captur3™ app that turns your iPhone into a 3D scanner that uploads real-world objects into the metaverse.
[2023] I successfully finished my internship at Microsoft Research Montreal, where I was mentored by Harm van Seijen, Remi Tachet & Romain Laroche, working on model-based reinforcement learning stuffs.
[2021] Conscious planning paper received media coverage from Synced Review, The Mila Blog (available in English & French), MarkTechPost, etc.
[2021] I was honored to be 1st place recipient of the 2020 FRQ (Nature and Technologies) PhD excellence fellowship.
[2020] I graduated my M.S. from McGill University with CGPA 4.0/4.0, advised by Doina Precup and Xiao-Wen Chang. Check out my thesis on using meta-learning to accelerate temporal difference learning.
[2018] I received my B.Eng. from Dalian University of Technology with 90%+ CGPA, elected with the honor of Outstanding Student Researcher of class 2018. My thesis was on transfer learning in Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL). The original was in Mandarin and not open to the public, however you could read the conference version here.
More About Me
I am actively learning more knowledge, more skills and evolving consciously towards a better person. I love reading history and psychology. Understanding humanity is one of my greatest passion.
I love adventures and enjoy a peaceful life (NO DRAMA PLS).
I am a Community Notes contributor on X, @TheHarryZhao. I want to break the information asymmetry and encourage people to be more reasonable, knowledgeable and engage in productive discussions.
I am try-lingual (not counting the programming languages), learning French (on pause)!
Music is a huge part of my life. I am right now slowly learning the violin (on pause). I studied music performance (wind instruments) when I was young, before pursuing my dream as a scientist 🙂
